At my local stop of the Appetite for Construction tour, I sat down with Dave Douglas, Jon Schneck, John Warne, and Matt Hoopes of Relient K in the catering area of Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, PA, while the crowds began streaming in for an early show on November 16, 2007. Later, Matt Thiessen joined us.
Last month I reported about my hesitation surrounding the Appetite for Construction tour, featuring newcomers Ruth, and familiar bands Relient K and Switchfoot. I was apprehensive about the live Switchfoot experience in an arena setting. Now, after having encountered four shows, I am here to report about my adventures.
As I write this, the latest disc from Paramore is spinning in my computer. Paramore was one of the bands I had hoped to see on this year’s Warped Tour.
A few years back we had a Canadian dude named Jon (alias: "The Runaway") handling our hip-hop section. Though some of us were (and are) fans of this type of music, we lacked the depth of understanding and intelligence Jon brought to appraising albums of the type. In late May, he broke in with his first full-length offering as a producer and emcee, titled A Brief Word.
Rain.
If we were to play word association, and you asked me the first word to come to mind when I hear “Summer Festival 2006” I would quickly reply with, “Rain!”

My iPod favorites in all their splendid glory!
These are not in order of "most listened to." They are all equals in my grateful eye.

Just a solid rock record. This CD has great melodies, and I always love the melodies he picks out to sing.

1. The Listening - The Listening
The Listening's full length debut is a moody one. Each listen reveals more textures that keep drawing you back in. Great lyrics, great music.
